Project Remit

A small site located just outside Linwood, formerly part of a railway line and now integrated into the National Cycle Network.

Strengthening works were undertaken on the existing structure to ensure the bridge meets the load-bearing requirements set by current highway standards.

Products/Services to be provided

Excavation – Steel reinforcement – Formwork for walls – Pour Concrete – Installation of Steel Arch – Brickwork – Mass Pour Foam Concrete Onto Arch – Landscaping – Surfacing.

Challenges that had to be overcome

The site was difficult to access, and significant surface water runoff from surrounding fields made effective water management a key priority.

Project Manager/Project Statement

“This was an interesting project with its fair share of challenges. The remote location and limited access made transporting equipment and materials to the site quite the task. Our site compound ended up being a mile away—which certainly kept us fit!

We also had to manage a significant amount of groundwater, due to both the site’s elevation and the surrounding farmland. Although we had identified the water issue during pre-start ground investigations, water management became a much bigger part of the project than we initially anticipated.

I really enjoyed working with Renfrewshire Council on this job and was very pleased with the final outcome.”
